Sugarcane Clamshells
Environmentally Friendly Food
Restaurants can generate a lot of waste, from old food to all of the material used to handle the food and drinks, such as plates and cups. Finding a way to be green can be as easy as looking at these Environmentally Friendly restaurant products, all of which are either made from recycled material from a renewable source.
Green To-Go
Renewable & Compostable Sugarcane Clamshells are grease and cut resistant alternatives to traditional petroleum-derived plastics or foam. Sturdy and versatile, these clamshells can handle a wide variety of foods. They are made from reclaimed and rapidly renewable sugarcane fibers and are 100% renewable, BPI certified compostable, and ASTM compliant. The soak-proof Sugarcane Clamshells are lined with PLA, a corn-based plastic. They are both hot and cold food friendly and freezer and microwave safe, making sure your leftovers will taste great when you are hungry again. They come in two sizes, 6 x 6 x 3 and 9 x 9 x 3 and the larger container comes in an open and 3 compartment design.
Green Benefits
Traditional plastics are petroleum based, and petroleum is one of the world’s most valuable, non-renewable resources. Sugarcane is a rapidly growing crop that can be used for a variety of purposes, and the Sugarcane Clamshells use reclaimed sugarcane waste that would otherwise be burned. The Polylactic acid (PLA) lining is a plant-based plastic made from corn, an annually grown crop. These renewable and compostable clamshells help divert waste from landfills and can help make valuable, fertile compost in commercial compost facilities, however not in home compost bins.
